New Wagga Wagga NSW Ambulance Station opened

06 Dec 2017

NSW Ambulance Commissioner Dominic Morgan today joined Member for Wagga Wagga Daryl Maguire, community members and local students to officially open the city’s new purpose-built NSW Ambulance station.

Commissioner Morgan said the new $4.4 million Wagga Wagga NSW Ambulance Station is the first newly built facility to begin operations under the NSW Government’s $122 million Rural Ambulance Infrastructure Reconfiguration (RAIR) program.

“Since it commenced operations in February this year, this station has enabled our hard-working and highly clinically capable paramedics to render medical assistance to hundreds of patients living in the Wagga Wagga region," Mr Morgan said.

”The new station, located at 117 Fernleigh Road in Turvey Park, is a major improvement on the previous, almost 90-year-old station on Johnston Street which was no longer able to continue supporting a modern paramedic workforce.

“This building, which also houses a training and education centre, is providing our dedicated local paramedics with the modern facilities they need to continue to deliver exceptional mobile emergency medical care to the community of Wagga Wagga and surrounds. This new facility is built with capacity to ensure we are able to meet projected patient demand in the area now and into the future,” said Mr Morgan.

The new Wagga Wagga station includes:

• 14 ambulance vehicle bays
• Zone office
• Fleet maintenance workshop
• A training and education centre
• Administration, office area and amenities
• On site staff parking
• A logistics and storage area.

Mr Morgan said the new Wagga Wagga station boosts efficiency and collaboration by accommodating a range of frontline and support services in one central location.

“The station also features an advanced training complex designed with the input of local staff to meet the unique needs of paramedic education and practice. Like all stations being delivered under RAIR, the new Wagga Wagga station was designed with the input of local NSW Ambulance staff to ensure it meets the needs of the community,” said Mr Morgan.

Paramedics have been operating from the new station since earlier this year following a carefully managed transition from the previous location.

The RAIR program currently includes 22 locations across NSW which will benefit from an upgraded, rebuilt or entirely new NSW Ambulance station. Paramedics are now operating from new and upgraded stations delivered under the program at Coolamon, Ardlethan and Harden.
